Wayne Graham Day to be Celebrated on March 7

Houston-Rice Athletics will celebrate the career of legendary baseball coach Wayne Graham by announcing several special commemorations of his enduring legacy at Rice as part of Wayne Graham Day on Friday, March 7 when the Owls open a weekend series against Yale.
Graham built Rice into a college baseball powerhouse over a 27-year career on South Main while wearing the same number, 37, as his former Hall of Fame manager with the New York Mets, Casey Stengel. After Graham's passing in September, plans for a day of recognition during the upcoming baseball season were immediately set in motion, and the obvious choice was the date that mirrored his iconic jersey number.
Graham won 1,173 games at Rice, leading them to 23 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, 11 Super Regionals, and seven trips to the College World Series, capped by the school's first NCAA team title in any sport in 2003.
Additional details regarding the activities and commemorations will be released later. As part of the commemoration, the R Association will host an alumni weekend for all former Rice baseball players. Registration is available for all former Owls interested in attending Friday's pregame tailgate as well as discounted tickets for their guests.
Tickets for Wayne Graham Day, in addition to all 2025 home games, are currently on sale online, starting at $10 for general admission. For information on organizing a group for any Rice baseball game, please fill out the online request form.
Rice will host USC this weekend in the first weekend series of the 2025 season, with games scheduled for 6:30 on Friday, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 1:00 on Sunday. The Owls opened a stretch of 19 consecutive games within the Houston city limits on Wednesday by defeating Sam Houston 6-1.
