Rice Rallies, Knocks Off Texas Tech 4-2

HOUSTON - Emir Sendogan's dramatic three-set victory pushed Rice over Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon, 4-2, at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. Rice improves to 6-3 with the win while Texas Tech falls to 5-4 on the year.
Action began with doubles play, where the Red Raiders were able to take court three by a score of 6-2, taking down Yair Sarouk and Eduardo Morais. Texas Tech won the doubles point by defeating the 50th-ranked duo of Kabeer Kapasi and Arthus de la Bassetiere at the first court. At court two, Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro were tied at 5-5 with their opponents.
To begin singles play, Navarro made quick work of his opponent to tie the match up, finishing first with 6-1, 6-4 final decisions. Tech would briefly take the lead back with a victory at the sixth line, 6-2, 6-4, but a win by Kuzmenok at the second line (6-4, 6-4) would lock the match up at 2-2.
At the first line, de la Bassetiere would come back from a 3-5 deficit to earn his second 7-5 victory of the match, knocking off Texas Tech's first line player by matching 7-5 results to take a 3-2 lead. In the end, it was Emir Sendogan who took his three-set match over Tech, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, to earn Rice's fourth point and finish the match with a Rice victory.
Rice will return to action on Tuesday, February 18, in a doubleheader with the women's tennis team against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
