HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's tennis team remains home to host two matches over the weekend, taking on the Lamar Cardinals on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., then returning to action on Sunday morning to host the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 11 a.m.
Rice enters the match with a 4-3 record after taking down the LSU Tigers last Friday night at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. As a result of the victory, Rice sophomore Petro Kuzmenok was named the American Athletic Conference's men's tennis Player of the Week, clinching the match-winning singles point at the first line.
Lamar enters the match with a 5-3 record, most recently defeating Southern University by a score of 7-0 at home. The Owls and Cardinals have both faced off against Arkansas and Baylor, with both birds falling to the Bears and Cardinals.
Texas Tech comes into the match with a 4-3 record, but will have an extra match under its belt prior to meeting with Rice. The Red Raiders will face off against UTSA on Friday in San Antonio before heading east to Houston.
Rice is 30-3 all-time against Lamar, including winning the previous seven matches over the Cardinals. This is the first time since 2022 that the two will meet at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, as the home match in 2024 was at The Downtown Club at The Met.
Rice is 19-12 all-time against Texas Tech, but have lost the previous four matches to the Red Raiders. Rice's last win in the series came in March of 2016, when the Owls edged the Red Raiders, 4-3, at home.
