HOUSTON – In a battle of two of the top three teams in the conference standings, the Rice soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against conference rival UTSA Thursday night at Holloway Field. The Owls move to 8-2-2 (2-1-2 American) while UTSA is now 6-2-5 (2-0-3 American).
How It Happened
It didn't take long before the Owls opened the scoring, netting the game's opening goal just shy of the nine-minute mark off the foot of Naija Bruckner. Taylor Rish looked to double the Rice lead soon after, but her shot was saved. The Roadrunners tied the match with five minutes left until the half, with the two sides going into the break even at 1-1.
After fending off several UTSA attempts, the Owls found themselves with an opportunity with an open look from Olivia Duvall, but once again the Roadrunner keeper was there to keep things tied. Piper Biziorek added another attempt in the final 15 minutes, but this time a leaping save kept things even as both defenses held for the 1-1 draw.
