Stadium Turf Replacement Underway

Effects of Hurricane Beryl leave current surface unplayable.
Houston-Work will begin on Thursday at Rice Stadium to replace the artificial playing surface after it was deemed unsafe for play due to the effects of Hurricane Beryl.
The current AstroTurf Rootzone 3D3 Turf System, installed in the historic venue in 2021, will be replaced by a new surface. The repair work will not impede the Owls' preparation for the upcoming football season, as all practices are normally held either on the grass field north of the Brian Patterson Sports Performance Center or in the Waltrip Indoor Training Center.
Rice's annual FanFest is scheduled at the stadium on August 17 at 6 p.m. If needed, decision on an alternate location for this year's event will be made next week.
Rice opens its 2024 season on Saturday, August 31 at 6 p.m. when the Owls host Sam Houston for the first time since 1993.
Single-game tickets for all six of Rice's 2024 home football games are now on sale starting at $22 online at TicketMaster or by calling (713) 348-OWLS (6957). Owls' fans also have the option to secure their same seats for all six games by purchasing season tickets or they can create their own customized two or three-game mini plans.
