HOUSTON — Thirteen games, including six inside Tudor Fieldhouse, highlight the 2024-25 Rice Men's Basketball non-conference schedule, the program announced Friday afternoon.
"We believe this non-conference schedule is filled with great challenges," said Rice Head Coach Rob Lanier. "There are so many strong programs, distinct playing styles, and great coaching that we will be forced to grow as a team ahead of AAC play."
The Rob Lanier era begins Nov 6, when the Owls host former Conference USA foe FIU. The teams met 12 times as members of C-USA, with the Panthers holding a 7-5 lead. They last met during the 2023-24 season when they split the season series.
Rice then faces off against ACC foe Florida State in The Battleground 2k24 at the Toyota Center. It will be the first game of a doubleheader. Houston and Auburn will compete in the second game.
The Owls return to Tudor for a pair of games, beginning Nov. 12 against Louisiana-Monroe. It will be just the third meeting between the teams and the first since 2007. Rice then host Northwestern State on Nov. 16. It is the third straight year the teams will meet, as Rice looks to stay undefeated against the Demons (10-0).
Rice then begins a six-game road trip on Nov. 19 when it travels to Lafayette, La., to face Louisiana. The Owls will stay in Houston when it heads across town to face Houston Christian at Sharp Gym on Nov. 22.
Rice heads to the Bahamas for the Nassau Championship, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, where the Owls will play three games in three days. The schedule and opponents will be released at a later date.
The road trip concludes on Dec. 8 when they travel to San Marcos to face Texas State.
The Owls will close out the non-conference schedule with three straight home games, beginning on Dec. 16 against Alcorn State. It's just the second meeting all-time and the first since 1988. Rice then hosts UNT-Dallas on Dec. 19 for the 11th annual School House Mania game.
The non-conference slate concludes on Dec. 22 against Prairie View A&M. Last year, Rice defeated the Panthers, 82-56.
