Rice linebacker Josh Pearcy has been named to the 2025 Reese's Senior Bowl Watchlist announced on Wednesday. The annual showcase of college football's top NFL prospects will be played on February 1, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama.Pearcy enters 2024 as a two-time team captain who earned honorable mention All-AAC honors from league coaches in 2023 who set career bests with six quarterback hits, 18 hurries, and 26 total pressures while playing a career-best 661 defensive snaps. He enters the season with 27.5 career tackles for loss and needs one to move into the Owls' career top ten, while his 13 career sacks are seventh in school history.
Rice wide receiver Luke McCaffrey played in the 2024 game, becoming the first Rice Owl to play in the game since 2014, and went on to be selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round of the NFL Draft.
This is the 12th year the Senior Bowl has released a watch list, and this year's roll call comprises a record 859 prospects. This total number is up significantly from past years due to the new addition of specialists and underclassmen, as well as the inclusion of many fifth and sixth-year seniors opting to use their extra COVID year of eligibility. Evaluations by the bowl's scouting staff and tape-based grades evaluated all the prospects, who were also logged on hundreds of other senior prospects who ultimately did not make the list.
The Reese's Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game and the first stage in the NFL Draft process. The longest continual-running all-star game has occurred in Mobile, Alabama the past 75 years. More than 900 NFL personnel, including key decision-makers from all 32 teams and over 1100 media members from around the country, were credentialed this year. This past April, the game produced 110 total picks, representing 43 percent of the entire NFL draft.
Pearcy and his Rice teammates will conclude their 2024 training camp on Saturday before the start of classes on Monday. The Owls open their 2024 season on Saturday, August 31 when they host Sam Houston at 6 p.m. at Rice Stadium.
Single-game tickets for all six of Rice's 2024 home football games are now on sale starting at $22 online at TicketMaster or by calling (713) 348-OWLS (6957).
