Conference adds fan events to annual gathering
Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach Mike Bloomgren, running back Dean Connors, and safety Gabriel Taylor will represent Rice at The American Athletic Conference Kickoff, July 22-23 at Loews Arlington in Arlington, Texas.
Connors and Taylor will join 26 other AAC football standouts in Arlington. Media sessions will begin at 2 p.m. CT on Monday and continue on Tuesday morning with press conferences with the 14 head coaches. The American's preseason media poll results will be announced at 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET), and Commissioner Tim Pernetti will deliver his remarks Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. CT (9:15 a.m. ET).
The annual preseason gathering of conference football coaches and student-athletes returns to Arlington for the second consecutive year. It will also feature photo sessions and press conferences with an added twist in 2024 as, for the first time, The American is inviting fans to participate in this year's event to start the college football season.
A limited number of fans will be able to experience the 2024 Kickoff in person to gain unprecedented access to players and coaches. Fans can sit in on press conferences, take part in photo opportunities, and enjoy meet-and-greets with the student-athletes and coaches.

ESPN+ will have that telecast, along with a second feed that will feature the full press conferences from the head coaches.
The Owls will report for their 2024 training camp on Thursday, August 1, to begin preparations for the season opener on August 31, when they host Sam Houston at Rice Stadium. They open their second season in The American on September 21 on the road against Army and the conference home schedule the following week when they host Charlotte.
