Owls Open 2024 Season Under the Lights

AAC & ESPN announce first set of game times
Rice will kick off its 2024 football season with three consecutive night games in Houston before leaving the city for an early kickoff against Army, as game times and broadcast assignments for six of the Owls' 12 regular season games were announced on Thursday.
The American Athletic Conference and ESPN announced their schedule for the first three weeks of the 2024 season in addition to the start times and broadcast assignments for the league's lineup of Thursday and Friday night games. At the same time, CBS Sports Network announced its 2024 schedule, including Rice's game at West Point against Army.
The Owls will kick off the 2024 campaign at historic Rice Stadium when they host Sam Houston at 6 p.m. on August 31, followed by a 6 p.m. kickoff the following Saturday (September 7) against Texas Southern. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Rice opens its 2024 road schedule the following week by making the short trip to face crosstown rival Houston for the next edition of the Bayou Bucket Classic Presented by HEB at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 on Big 12 Now/ESPN+. The Owls will be looking to retain the Bayou Bucket for the first time since 2001.
The following week, Rice takes a much longer trip, traveling to New York to face Army in the schools' first meeting as members of the same conference. The Black Knights will be in their first season in the AAC and welcome the Owls back to West Point for the 10th overall meeting between the schools on September 21 at 11 a.m. (central) on CBS Sports Network.
CBS SN will also broadcast the Owls' second trip to the East Coast as the network will broadcast Rice's game at UConn on October 26. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (central).
The Owls' game at Memphis on Friday, November 8, will kick off at 8 p.m. and be carried nationally on ESPN2.
Game time assignments for the final six regular season games, including home contests against Charlotte (September 28), UTSA (October 12), Navy (November 9), and South Florida (November 30), will be released every week through the season by The American as part of the conference's 12-day selection process.
