
Men's Tennis Lands Three on CSC Academic All-District Team

HOUSTON, Texas — Rice men's tennis placed three athletes on the 2024 Academic All-District Men's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators. Arthus de la Bassetiere, Eduardo Morais and Yasha Zemel each earned the honor.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Morais earned the award after posting a 3.52 GPA while majoring in mathematical economic analysis. The junior recorded a 10-2 singles record on the year, including a 3-1 mark during the dual match season. Morais also went 16-7 in doubles play with a 12-4 record in dual matches, playing predominantly alongside de la Bassetiere at the third spot in the lineup.
De la Bassetiere was named academic all-district after recording a 3.75 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering. In his first year at Rice, the junior went 13-16 in singles matches with a 9-11 mark during dual matches while playing predominantly at the No. 3 spot. De la Bassetiere also went 14-8 in doubles matches, including a 13-5 record during the dual match season largely playing alongside the aforementioned Morais.
Zemel earned the honor after posting a 3.84 GPA while majoring in political science. Zemel featured at the No. 1 positions in both the singles and doubles lineups for the Owls and was named to the AAC All-Conference Doubles Team alongside junior Kabeer Kapasi. The senior went 17-10 in doubles matches this year, including a 12-6 mark at the top spot in the lineup during the dual match season. In singles play, Zemel went 8-18 with a 6-14 mark in dual match play. Zemel was also named the AAC Player of the Week on March 26 after helping Rice to the team title at the 65th Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational.
