Women’s T&F Shines at Twilight Meet

HOUSTON – The Rice women's track and field team was on full display at the 20th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet, with one school record, six event titles and nine personal bests from top finishers.
The Owls honored their senior class at the meet: Johanna Bangala, Christelle Bonzil, Kennedy Gamble, Taigen Hunter-Galvan, Gal Kadmon, Eliza Kraule, Ginnie Okafor, Addison Saley, Katlyn Schmeltzer, Ellie Schweiker, Lina Spjut and Tara Simpson-Sullivan.
Simpson-Sullivan opened the meet with a bang, claiming the weight throw title with a throw of 64.04m. Mckyla Van der Weshuizen continued the strong start for the throws with a season-best throw of 55.98 in the javelin.
Josie Taylor took back the high jump school record from her sister, Alice Taylor, with a clearance of 1.86m, tying her for sixth in the NCAA.
Ginnie Okafor and Savannah Simms had an impressive showing in the triple jump, finishing first and second, respectively, with personal best jumps. Okafor jumped 13.04m to move into sixth all-time at Rice, while Simms' 12.86m ranks 11th all-time.
On the track, Taigen Hunter-Galvan shined in her final home meet, claiming the 800m title, and later running on Rice's 4x400m Relay team, which also finished first.
