
Owls Ready for Twilight Meet on Saturday

HOUSTON – The Rice Owls women's track & field team returns to Wendel D. Ley track for the final home meet of the year for the 20th J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet on Saturday. The meet will being at 10 a.m. with women's hammer throw and men's javelin.
The meet will also be Senior Day for Rice track and field, with the ceremony taking place at 5:30 p.m.
In total, the Owls will have 26 athletes competing across 16 events. Along with Rice, schools competing are Dallas Baptist, Hill College, Houston, Huston-Tillotson, Jarvis Christian, LeTourneau, McNeese State, Nicholls State, North American, Our Lady of the Lake, Prairie View, Sam Houston, St. Edward's, St. Thomas (TX), TAMU-Kingsville, TAMU-Texarkana, TAMU-CC, Texas College, Texas Southern, UTRGV and Victoria College.
With less than three weeks of competition remaining until the AAC Championships, the Owls currently have several athletes in the top 50 of their respective events in the NCAA: Mckyla Van der Westhuizen (5th – javelin), Alice Taylor (6th – high jump), Josie Taylor (13th – high jump), Tara Simpson-Sullivan (14th – hammer throw) and Kennedy Gamble (26th – 100m).
