Women’s Track With Strong Showing Out West

CALIFORNIA – The Rice women's track and field team had several top performances throughout the weekend in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational.
At the Beach Invitational, Mckyla Van der Westhuizen took the javelin title with a season-best throw of 55.82m. Her mark currently ranks her first in the AAC, fifth in the NCAA West and fifth in the NCAA.
Tara Simpson-Sullivan made a big impression in her first throws this season in the hammer throw, finishing third with a throw of 64.69m. Simpson-Sullivan's throw currently ranks first in the AAC, 10th in the NCAA West and 14th in the NCAA.
Over at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Taigen Hunter-Galvan shined in a highly competitive 800m run, finishing 39th out of 120 athletes.
