UAB opens weekend series on Friday at 6:35
Reckling Park: Jack Riedel's two-run homer in the bottom of the first highlighted a three-run first for the Owls and seven Rice pitchers made the lead hold up as the Owls defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi 5-3 on Wednesday night.
The Details: After Karl Ralamb worked a scoreless opening frame in his first career start, Rice jumped on Islanders' starter Samuel Feltz for three runs in the bottom of the first. Jacob Devenny extended his hitting streak to a career-high six games with a leadoff double and one out later Treyton Rank brought him home with a single to right. Jack Riedel followed with an opposite-field homer to left, his 10th of the season. Rank provided the eventual winning runs two innings later with a double inside the third base bag, scoring Devenny and Ben Dukes. Mark Perkins worked 3.1 innings and struck out a career-high five to earn his first win of the year while Reed Gallant needed just two pitches to record the game's final out and earn his second career save.
Up Next: Rice wraps up its eight-game homestand with a three-game series against UAB during Rice's annual Blue-Gray Weekend. The series opens at 6:30 on Friday, followed by games at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
