HOUSTON, Texas — Rice women's tennis fell to No. 31 Columbia, 4-1, on Friday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Doubles: The Owls jumped out to an early lead in doubles as senior Federica Trevisan and graduate senior Chie Kezuka posted a 6-1 win at the first position. The Lions responded, however, with wins at the second and third spots in the lineup to secure the doubles point.
Singles: Columbia extended their lead with wins at the third and sixth positions to begin singles play. Trevisan then earned her second victory of the day to put Rice on the board, winning at the top position of singles, 6-2, 6-4. With the victory, Trevisan improved to 7-4 in dual matches this season, playing exclusively at the top position of the lineup. Kezuka and junior Saara Orav fought to tiebreaks in each of their matches at the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, but a Lions victory at the second court clinched the win for the visitors.
Up Next: Rice continues its homestand against Tulsa at George R. Brown Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 19, at 11 a.m. (CT). The Owls will also host a neutral match between Columbia and Tulsa on Sunday, March 17, at 11 a.m. (CT).
