Owls back in action on Friday vs. HCU at Reckling
The Details: A three-run double in the first gave Hawai'i the early lead on the Owls, but starter Robert Fernandez and reliever Tom Vincent held the Rainbow Warriors off the board for the next five innings to keep Rice within striking distance. The Owls cut the margin to one by scoring a pair with two outs in the fifth. Jacob Devenny was hit by a pitch and Tobias Motley, making his starting debut, singled. Kyte McDonald drilled a double to left to score both. One inning later, the Owls jumped in front on a two-run double by Treyton Rank. Manny Garza opened the inning with a walk and Nathan Becker followed with a single off the third baseman's glove. Pierce Gallo moved them up one base with a sacrifice bunt and Ranked smacked a 1-2 pitch to left to give the Owls their first lead since the opener on Friday. The lead was short-lived, thanks to a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. Jack Riedel pulled the Owls to within one with his fifth homer of the year, but the Owls would not score again.
Up Next: Rice returns to action on Friday when the Owls open a three-game, home-and-home series with HCU. The series opens at 6:30 on Friday at Reckling Park, followed by a 2 p.m. game at Husky Field on Saturday before the series wraps up with a 1 p.m. game at Reckling on Sunday.
