Spring Practice Opens March 4

Blue-Gray Spring Game April 13 at 5 p.m.
Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach Mike Bloomgren's Rice Owls return to the practice field on Monday, March 4 with the first of 15 spring practices leading up to the annual Blue-Gray Spring Game which will kick off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Rice Stadium as part of the Owls' annual Blue-Gray Weekend.
The Owls will hold three opening practices prior to Rice's Spring Break (March 9-16), and then return to the practice field again on March 18. They will practice each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until the week of the Blue-Gray game.
Bloomgren's Owls are coming off a second consecutive bowl season and will welcome back 10 starters on defense and eight on offense in addition to leading rusher Dean Connors. They open the 2024 season on August 31 by hosting Sam Houston, the first of three consecutive games in the city of Houston. Rice will host Texas Southern on September 7 and then take on cross-town rival Houston in the Bayou Bucket Classic presented by HEB on September 14.
The 2024 American Athletic Conference football schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
All practices are open to the media after contacting the Rice Athletics Communications Office. High school coaches, prospective recruits, Rice football lettermen, and family members of current players are also invited to attend practices but asked to contact Director of Recruiting Operations/High School Relations Marvin Nash (marvin.nash@rice.edu) in advance. Members of the Owl Club should contact Ryan Hall (rh71@rice.edu) about attending practices. Selected workouts will be designated as open to the general public at a later date.
