
Owls Fall to No. 17 Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – The Rice women's basketball team dropped the final non-conference game of the season in an 88-57 road defeat to No. 17 Georgia Tech Wednesday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion. The Owls will start AAC play at 7-5 on the season, while Georgia Tech moves to 12-0.
Hailey Adams led the Owls with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Dominique Ennis added 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
As a team, Rice shot 24-of-65 (36.9%) from the floor and 4-of-18 (22.2%) from three-point range.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
After a Yellow Jacket score opened the game, Ennis drilled a three-pointer to take an early lead. Georgia Tech pulled ahead by three, but Sussy Ngulefac brought Rice within one. Down by seven, Malia Fisher closed the quarter with a jumper as the Owls trailed 16-11.
Second Quarter
A 9-0 run by the Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter before Adams snapped the run with a second-chance score. After Ennis' and-one conversion brought the deficit to 32-17, another run gave Georgia Tech a 37-18 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
Jazzy Owens-Barnett got the Owls on the board in the third before the Yellow Jackets extended their lead. Back-to-back baskets from Adams later helped counter Georgia Tech scorers, with GT responding on another run to take a 63-32 lead at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter
Fisher and Adams accounted for Rice's first three baskets in the fourth, with Ngulefac later adding another score to cut into the deficit. Victoria Flores' three-pointer started a quick Rice un, with Adams, Ennis and Jill Twiehaus adding. Twiehaus closed the game with her second three-pointer as Georgia Tech went on to win.

The Owls will open AAC play on Dec. 29, at Tudor Fieldhouse against South Florida. The game is a noon tip and will be nationally broadcasted on ESPN2.
