Preseason All-AAC baseball team
Davion Hickson has been named to the preseason All-AAC Baseball team in voting by the conference's head coaches.
In his first season at Rice in 2023, the righthander led the Owls in saves (6) and opponents' batting average (.206) and was second in appearances (27), third in wins (3), strikeouts (64), and innings pitched (54.2).
His six saves were the most by an Owl since 2019, and they were tied for seventh in the AAC. He also tied for the lead in AAC games in the fewest home runs allowed (1) and ranked second in hits allowed (24), runs allowed (14), and opponents' batting average (.229).
Hickson was dominant at Reckling Park last season, posting a 2-0 record with four saves in 15 appearances while posting a 1.45 ERA, .167 opponents' batting average, and 34 strikeouts in 31 innings. His 10 strikeouts in five innings out of the bullpen at Charlotte were the most strikeouts by a Rice reliever since 2014 and locked down the Owls' first win in their last nine games vs. Charlotte.
Hickson and the Owls will open their 2025 season on February 14 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, when they face Villanova at the Puerto Rico Challenge in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The Owls open their home season on February 18 when they host Sam Houston at 6:30.
