Mandelbaum, Sarouk to Play in Doubles Final in Ron Wesbrooks Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - Members of the Rice Owls men's tennis team continued competition at the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational hosted by Lamar University, where the Owls picked up four singles victories and clinched a spot in the finals in doubles play.
In doubles action, Joshua Mandelbaum and Yair Sarouk took down Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's Berry and Zapletal in dominate fashion (6-0) to advance to the doubles finals on Sunday morning. The tandem earned a first round bye so they did not play yesterday.
In singles, Emir Sendogan earned two victories with a three-set victory over Medus from UTA (6-3, 5-7, 10-6) and a two-set victory over Fouzas from Corpus Christi (6-0, 6-3). Sarouk and Mandelbaum also claimed singles victories, defeating Lahjomri from UTA (4-6, 6-2, 11-9) and Scribner from ACU (4-6, 6-2, 11-9) respectively. The two also fell in their second matches of the day, with Sarouk falling 6-2, 6-1 to Trebuchet from Corpus Christi, then Mandelbaum falling 1-6, 7-5, 11-9 to Chappuis from Lamar.
Play will resume and conclude in Beaumont on Sunday, October 6.
