Rice Wraps Up Day One at Ron Wesbrooks Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - Members of the Rice Owls men's tennis team began competition at the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational hosted by Lamar University on Friday.

Emir Sendogan, Yair Saruok, and Josh Mendelbaum represented Rice in three singles matches today, with Mandelbaum and Saruok earning a bye before tomorrow's match in doubles against a tandem from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

To start the day, Sendogan fell in two sets to his opponent from Abilene Christian, 6-3, 6-2. Saruok fell to his opponent from the host Lamar in three sets, pushing the third set to the brink at 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, (10-6). Finally, Mandelbaum also pushed his set to the brink in three, but ultimately fell to his opponent from Corpus Christi, 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.

These members will return to action Saturday morning to wrap up play.
