Jackson Named AAC Special Teams Player of the Week

100-yard kickoff return broke a 51-year old school record.
Rice kick returner Quinton Jackson was named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his record-setting performance against UConn on Saturday.
Jackson returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Huskies, breaking the previous school record of 99 yards which had been done three times, most recently by both Carl Sweirc and James Sykes in 1973. He added an earlier return of 45 yards to post the most kickoff return yardage in a game by an Owl since 2018 and added 37 yards rushing to finish the day with 187 all-purpose yards.
He is the first Owl to return a kickoff for a touchdown since Jeremy Eddington returned one 97 yards at UTEP in 2012.
Jackson is averaging 28.7 yards per return, which leads the conference, and is second in the nation.
Rice returns home this Saturday to host Navy as part of Homecoming festivities. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. with national coverage on ESPN 2. Tickets for the game start at $22 through TicketMaster or by calling (713) 348-OWLS (6957) for further assistance.
