Ratkovic, de la Bassetiere to Play on Sunday at AAC Individual Championships

HOUSTON - A pair of Owls clinched finals spots in the AAC Men's and Women's Individual Championships hosted at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. Divna Ratkovic will compete in the women's singles final, while Arthus de la Bassetiere will take part in the men's backdraw finals.
Saturday's action began with the doubles semifinals in the morning, where both Rice tandems fell in the 10-point tiebreaker in the third set. The duo of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez fell to the duo of Mariana Manyoma and Ana Paula Naranjo Martinez from Tulsa, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 10-5. In the men's bracket, Arthus de la Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi dropped a heartbreaker in three-sets, falling to Vasco Prata and Matias Itrube from Tulane, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 13-11. Rice's tandem led 11-10 in the final set but fell to Tulane's tandem in the end.
In singles action, Divna Ratkovic punched her ticket to the women's singles finals on Sunday morning with a pair of 6-3 victories over Sara Suchankova from Charlotte. Ratkovic was in control from the get-go in her match, taking down her opponent with ease. Schwartzman fell to Leonie Moeller from Memphis in three sets, dominating in the first set 6-2, but then falling 6-3, 6-1 in the second and third set.
In the men's singles action, de la Bassetiere clinched a spot in the men's backdraw finals with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Noah Malige from UAB. De la Bassetiere will face off against Luc Hoeijmans from Tulane, who clinched a spot in the finals after taking down Rice's Emir Sendogan in two sets, 6-3, 7-6.
The AAC Individual Championships will conclude on Sunday with the Men's and Women's singles and doubles finals, as well as the men's backdraw finals.
