Men's Tennis Opens Competition at ITA Texas Men's Regional Championship

WACO, Texas - The Rice Owls men's tennis team enjoyed success on the first day of the ITA Texas Men's Regional Championship hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Four Owls came away with singles victories and one doubles team took down a Power 4 tandem to advance.
Emir Sendogan was the first Owl to claim victory on the day, defeating his opponent from Texas Tech in two sets by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Kabeer Kapasi was the next Owl to emerge victorious, defeating his opponent from Texas A&M in just two sets as well with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) final score. Eduardo Morais kept Rice's winning ways going with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over his opponent from Baylor to wrap up the victories in the main singles draw.
In the singles extra matches, Joshua Mandelbaum, defeated his opponent from UTSA in two sets by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, Sendogan and Mandelbaum teamed up to down a tandem from Texas Tech, including the same player that Sendogan defeated in his singles match, by a score of 8-6.
Action continues from Waco on Saturday morning.
