Bayou Bucket Set for 2024 & 2025

Bayou Bucket Classic presented by HEB
Rice and Houston jointly announced on Thursday the schools will battle for possession of the Bayou Bucket again in 2024 and 2025.
The schools will meet in the Bayou Bucket Classic presented by HEB on September 14, 2024, at the Cougars' TDECU Stadium, with a return engagement at Rice Stadium on September 13, 2025,
This year's meeting will be the 46th all-time between the schools in a series that began in 1971 and the 43rd when the Owls and Cougars have battled for both city bragging rights and the Bayou Bucket trophy, which was first introduced by the Touchdown Club of Houston in 1974.
The trophy currently resides at the Brian Patterson Center at Rice after the Owls took possession with a 42-41 win over the Cougars last fall.
The Bayou Bucket Classic presented by HEB rounds out the Owls' 2024 non-conference schedule that opens on August 31 against Sam Houston at Rice Stadium, followed by Texas Southern the following Saturday. The non-conference schedule wraps up on October 24 when Rice travels east to take on UConn.
The Owls' 2024 American Athletic Conference schedule will be released by the conference in the near future.
