Owls Set to Face South Florida on ESPNU

On the Big Stage
The Owls will conclude their short two-game homestand Sunday against South Florida at noon. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU. Rice will head on the road for three games starting next Wednesday at East Carolina.
Last Time Out
Cold shooting hurt the Owls late last Thursday night in a 61-54 defeat to Charlotte in a battle of the last two unbeaten teams in conference play. Malia Fisher led the Owls with 14 points while Destiny Jackson finished with her second career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Rice vs. South Florida
This is the second meeting between the two, with South Florida winning the only prior matchup 65-64 in Tampa during the 1989-90 season.

After hitting the game-winning layup as time expired in Rice's 65-63 win at SMU, Destiny Jackson was named to the weekly AAC Honor Roll. Jackson finished the game with a season-high 17 points, a season-high seven assists, six rebounds, a block and a steal. She finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists in Rice's 76-64 win against Wichita State.

Dominique Ennis earned the first AAC Honor for the Owls, being named to the AAC Honor Roll after dropping a career-high 25 points, with six three-pointers, while adding a career-high five assists, five rebounds and four steals in Rice's 74-44 win over Texas Southern. Ennis added another 14 points at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Maya Buckets
Bokunewicz drained seven threes in Rice's 73-62 win over Saint Mary's, tying the school record for threes in a game (fourth time, second for Maya). Bokunewicz joins Jenny Cafferty (Fresno State 1-27-00), Kara Liggett (San Jose State 2-17-00), Katelyn Crosthwait (UTSA 1-16-23) and herself (UAB 3-5-22) with seven in a game.
Historic Feats vs. HCU
Rice allowed only five points in the first half against HCU, marking the fewest points allowed in a half in program history. The Huskies' lone point in the first quarter also marked the fewest points scored against Rice in program history.
Fisher Tabbed for Preseason Honors, Owls Picked Third
Junior forward Malia Fisher was named to the 2023 Preseason All-AAC Second Team. Fisher, an All-C-USA Second Teamer last season, was second on the team with 11.8 points per game while leading the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. She also had a team-high five double-doubles on the season. Fisher had a career-high 22 points, including the game-winning steal and layup against Louisiana Tech. Rice was selected third in the team's AAC debut, finishing behind preseason favorite South Florida and last season's champion East Carolina.
