Owls host Prairie View on Tuesday and then open final C-USA series with FIU on Thursday
Bowling Green, KY: Four WKU pitchers scattered six hits as the Hilltoppers completed a sweep of Rice with a 5-2 win on Sunday.
The Details: For the second straight game, Rice opened the scoring. Connor Walsh, who was 2x4 on the day and hit in each game of the series, led off the second with a single and advanced to third on an error, and then scored on a single by Guy Garibay Jr. WKU answered with two runs in the bottom of the second and extended the lead to 4-1 with solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Rice cut the margin to 4-2 when a ground out by Jack Riedel scored Garibay who had opened the inning by reaching on an error. WKU pushed the margin to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh and held Rice off the board over the final two frames.

Up Next: Rice opens its final homestand of 2023 on Tuesday by hosting Prairie View at 6:30. The Owls (7-20 in C-USA play) will host FIU (7-20) in a three-game series beginning on Thursday looking to clinch the final spot in the Conference USA Baseball Championship, which opens at Reckling Park on May 24.

Notes
- Rice fell to 4-7 in series finales, 6-6 at WKU's Nick Denes Field, and concluded road play in Conference USA with a 139-93-2.
- Ben Dukes recorded his first hit as an Owl since 4/13/21 with his first career double and walked twice to match his career-best for reaching base. He had a hit and a pair of walks at ODU on 4/17/21.
- Riedel saw his hitting streak end at 16 games. He is hitting .408 over his last 17 games (29x71).
- Walsh's two RBI gave him five in his last four games.
- Max Johnson was 1x4 and has hit in four of six starts since returning from an injury and has scored seven runs.
