
Owls Open Final Home Slate Against UTSA

In Brief: Rice opens a three-game homestand to close out the 2023 regular season by hosting #34 UTSA in a combined match with the Rice women's team, who is hosting SMU. First serves are set for 11 a.m.

THE OWLS: After dropping a tight 4-2 match at #25 Texas A&M last Saturday, Rice comes into action this week ranked 71st. Today's dual is the first of three final regular season matches at home prior to the Owls hosting the C-USA Championship the final weekend in April.
THE ROADRUNNERS: UTSA is 16-4 this season and ranked 34th in this week's ITA computer rankings. They have won 14 straight dual matches since a 4-1 loss at SMU in early February. Their doubles team of Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez are ranked 21st in the nation.
THE SERIES: Rice leads the overall series 19-6 (5-4 as members of C-USA). Rice leads the series at GRBTC 3-2, but UTSA won the most recent meeting, 5-2 in 2021. The Roadrunners also defeated the Owls in their inaugural match at GRBC in 2015 (4-3).
GRBTC: Rice is 79-35 in dual action since moving into their current home in the fall of 2014. They are 9-7 in C-USA play and 6-12 all-time against ranked opponents.
Doubling Up: Today's combined match is the final of four that were scheduled this season featuring both the men's and women's teams.
NOTABLE:
• Rice is 14-5 in doubles this season and has a combined record of 31-14 so far this year. The Owls are 9-5 when winning the point, 2-3 when dropping the first point. UTSA is a combined 29-22 this year in doubles.
Up Next: The Owls return to action at noon next Saturday when then they host SMU in the annual Turpin Cup match.
