HOUSTON – Rice women's basketball head coach Lindsay Edmonds announced Thursday morning (April 27) the addition of Emily Klaczek as a transfer from UAB. Klaczek arrives to Houston with two years of eligibility remaining with the Owls.
"We are so excited to add Emily to our program. Emily is a versatile wing player that can score in a variety of ways," Edmonds said. "We love that she is coming off a season where she shot 41 percent from behind the arc, which will really continue to stretch the defense for us. Emily also exemplifies all the things that are very important to our program and culture and because of that she is a perfect fit for our Rice Owl family!"
Klaczek, a 5-10 guard from Hoffman Estates, Ill., heads to South Main after playing in all 31 games for the Blazer this past season, starting in the final five games of the season. She averaged 5.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 15 minutes per game. Klaczek added 37 assists, 11 blocks and two steals.
On the season, Klaczek shot 41.3% from the floor and 40.6% from three. Klaczek dropped a season-high 20 points against Mississippi Valley State on a near-perfect 7-of-8 shooting display, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. She added a 16-point performance against Charlotte and UTSA.
During the 2021-22 campaign, Klaczek played in all 31 games while earning 25 starts. She averaged 10.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game and reached double-digit points in 17 games. She dropped a career-high 26 points with six three pointers against WKU and added another 20 points against Rice. Klaczek added a 42.8% shooting display from the floor and 35.5% from beyond the arc on the season.
Klaczek joins Sussy Ngulefac (transfer, Samford), Layla Conley (San Antonio, Texas / Harlan HS) and Pace Rickard (Grant Rapids, Michigan / Christian HS) as part of Edmonds' 2023-24 recruiting class.
