Owls Down The Tribe 4-3
3/26/2023 8:01:00 PM | Men's Tennis
Match moves indoors for deciding sets
Houston: Dylan Heap and Kabeer Kapasi raced to a 6-3 win at the second doubles line to provide the clinching win as Rice held off William & Mary in a dual match that finished indoors at Advantage Indoor after the teams could not determine the outcome before light rain showers moved through Houston.
Singles: In an effort to determine a winner before the predicted rain arrived, the match was moved up to an 8:30 start with singles being played first. Rice stormed out to first set wins on four courts before the rains caused a suspension of play to allow the teams to travel to the indoor venue. Once the match restarted, Santiago Navarro and Trinity Grear picked up where they left off and put the first two points on the board with straight set wins. Kapasi added the third point with a tiebreak win in his second set, but The Tribe struck back to take the other three matches to leave the winner to be decided by the doubles.
Doubles: Due to limited court availability after singles, only the first two lines of doubles were able to begin play immediately after singles. Navarro and Campbell Salmon moved the Owls to within one win of the clinch point with a 6-2 win at the first line and Heap and Kapasi followed with the clinching win.
