Spring Game set for 6 p.m. on April 15
Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach Mike Bloomgren will open his sixth set of spring drills in preparation for the Owls' first season in The American Athletic Conference on Monday, March 6. Monday's workout will be the first of 15 practices that conclude with the annual Blue-Gray Spring Game at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 15.
Admission to the Blue-Gray game is free and fans who redeem their tickets in advance will have a chance to win a custom Rice Football jersey.
The Owls will hold a total of three practices prior to Rice's Spring Break (March 11-19), and then return to the practice field again on March 20. They will practice each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the exception of the Blue-Gray game.
Bloomgren's sixth season with the Owls opens on the road at Texas on September 2, followed by home non-conference games with Houston and Texas Southern before making their AAC debut on September 23 in Tampa against USF and their home debut in their new conference the following week by hosting East Carolina. The non-conference schedule wraps up on October 7 with a home game with UConn before the Owls head into their final six conference games.
Rice will welcome 15 starters and 39 lettermen from last year's LendingTree Bowl team for the start of drills as well as eight transfers and its first class of four early enrollees from its most recent signing class of high school seniors.
All practices are open to the media after contacting the Rice Athletics Communications Office. High school coaches, prospective recruits, Rice football lettermen, and family members of current players are also invited to attend practices but asked to contact Executive Director of Player Personnel & Recruiting Innovation Marco Regalado (mailto:mr87@rice.edu) in advance. Members of the Owl Club should contact Ryan Hall (rh71@rice.edu). Selected practices will be designated as open to the general public at a later date.
Information on joining the lineup of season ticket members for Rice Football will be released soon. Current season ticket members will receive an email with further information on the renewal process. Those interested in locking in new season tickets for the Owls' historic first season in the American can guarantee the best seats by placing a season ticket deposit or by filling out the season ticket request form. With demand expected to be high for the inaugural season in the American and the first seven-game home slate at Rice Stadium since 1990, this will ensure priority access to season tickets once the renewal campaign has concluded.
