Rice Opens C-USA play on Friday at UAB

Waco: Five Baylor pitchers held Rice a pair of singles by Pierce Gallo making an early offensive explosion by the Bears all the runs they would need in a 6-0 victory on Tuesday night.

The Details: The Bears jumped on Owls starter Mauricio Rodriguez (0-3) for five runs in the first two innings while five Baylor pitchers held the Owls in check. Pierce Gallo singled in the third and added a bunt single in the fifth to account for the Owls' offense. Blake Brogdon, Tom Vincent, and Tyler Hamilton combined for five scoreless innings on just two hits while fanning six to keep Rice within striking distance after the early deficit.

Notes

Rice is now 2-2 on weeknights including 1-1 on the road
The Owls who have won four of their last six, fell to 2-6 away from Reckling Park in 2023.
The two hits were the fewest by the Owls in a game since they were held to one hit at Charlotte on 5/8/22 and matched their hit total in Baylor's 9-0 win at Reckling Park last season.
Blake Brogdon worked two scoreless innings in relief, his longest outing since he went 8 in his final start of 2021.
Vincent's 2.1 innings were his longest career outing in relief.
Pierce Gallo's third-inning single allowed him to extend his on-base streak to 15 games this season and 25 dating back to last season.

Up Next: Rice opens its final season of Conference USA baseball this weekend with a road series at UAB and remains on the road for a game at Texas A&M on March 21. Then Owls return home to Reckling on March 24 to host UTSA.
