Road trip closes vs. Vanderbilt on Sunday
Murfreesboro, Tennessee: #21 Middle Tennessee withstood a strong challenge by Rice in doubles and swept to a 7-0 win on Friday night at the Adams Tennis Center.
Doubles: The Blue Raiders took the early advantage with a win at the first line, but found the deciding second point in question until the final games as neither of each school's remaining doubles team would give the other any opportunity. Both matches were tied at 5-5 and while the match at the third line had moved to a tiebreaker, Middle Tennessee emerged with the point by breaking serve late and winning 7-5.
Singles: The Blue Raiders made the Owls' task even more daunting by winning all six first sets in singles. Santiago Navarro and Campbell Salmon bounced back with second-set wins to extend their matches, but MTSU closed out the night by sweeping all courts.
Up Next: The Owls close out their road trip to Tennessee on Sunday when they face Vanderbilt at noon.
