Owls Add UConn and Texas Southern to ’24 Schedule

Six home games in 2024
Houston-Rice Football has added games with UConn and Texas Southern to the Owls' 2024 schedule, with the game against the Huskies the first of a home-and-home series that will conclude in 2025.
Rice and Texas Southern will meet at Rice Stadium on September 7, 2024, one week after the Owls open the campaign by hosting Sam Houston. This will be the third meeting between Rice and TSU, with the Owls winning in 2021 and 2023.
Rice and UConn met for the first time in history last fall and the two additional games will extend the series for three consecutive years. The Owls will travel east to face the Huskies on October 24, 2024 and then host a return visit by UConn on October 11, 2025.
The addition of the game with Texas Southern will give the Owls six home games in 2024. In addition to the two non-conference games with Sam Houston and TSU, Rice will host American Athletic Conference rivals Charlotte, Navy, South Florida, and UTSA with those dates to be announced early in 2024 by the conference.
The 2023 Owls wrapped up their week of SERVEPRO First Responder Bowl practice at Rice on Thursday with a two-hour practice and will depart for Dallas on Friday morning. They will hold their final two bowl practices in Dallas on Saturday and Sunday, then conduct a walk-through on Monday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in advance of Tuesday's 4:30 kickoff against Texas State.
