
Five Owls Earn Academic All-District Honors

Anigbogu, Banks, Heitmann, McCaffrey, and Phillippi candidates for the CSC Academic All-America® Team
Chike Anigbogu, Brant Banks, Van Heitmann, Luke McCaffrey, and Trey Phillippi have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division I Academic All-District® Football team which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
McCaffrey, who is a repeat selection on the All-District team, carried a 3.52 GPA during his undergraduate studies and has posted a 3.67 graduate GPA while earning All-American Athletic Conference honors as a wide receiver.
Anigbogu compiled a 3.65 GPA while completing his undergraduate studies in Sports Medicine this fall and serving as the captain of the Owls' special teams. Banks has maintained a 3.76 graduate GPA since joining the Owls as a graduate transfer last January. He started all 12 games for the Owls this year left guard. Heitmann has a 3.65 GPA while pursuing a degree in business. He appeared in all 12 games and made his first career start vs. SMU. Phillippi has compiled a 3.59 GPA while majoring in business and appearing in all 12 games as a tight end and on special teams.
All five will be placed on the CSC Academic All-America® national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024.
