
Women's Tennis Signs Nithesa Selvaraj for 2024

HOUSTON, Texas — Rice women's tennis head coach Elizabeth Schmidt announced on Tuesday the signing of Nithesa Selvaraj to the 2024 roster.
Nithesa Selvaraj joins the Owls out of Virtual School Victoria in Griffin, Queensland, Australia, and has achieved a high ranking of 764th in the Women's ITF World Singles rankings. Selvaraj also ranks 54th in the Australian women rankings and eighth in the Australian junior girls rankings. Selvaraj reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 W15 Caloundra Singles Main Draw and also reached the main draw of the 2023 W25 Perth Singles tournament. She won the Toowoomba 2023 Easter Gold Cup in singles and was a finalist in the singles of the 2023 20K Queensland Open.
"We are looking forward to Nithesa joining our team in January," Schmidt said. "What is unique about Nithesa is not only has she excelled on the tennis court but she is also a proven multi-sport athlete. With her athleticism as well as her work ethic and high-character, we are excited about Nithesa's arrival on South Main and the positive impact she will have on the program."
Selvaraj also competed during high school in badminton and track & field. She placed third at the 2014 An Yu Junior Badminton Cup. In track, she won the triple jump at the 2019 division championships and placed third in both the triple jump and 100 meters at the 2019 regional championships.
