Owls Fall Short on Road to UAB

BIRMINGHAM – The Rice soccer team came out swinging in the second half, but the Blazers fended off the Rice rally as UAB took a 2-1 victory in Birmingham.
How It Happened
The Blazer jumped in front early, with Izzy Passman scoring a goal just five minutes in the game. Piper Biziorek tried to even the match in the 17' minute, but her shot was scooped up by the Blazer keeper. UAB doubled its score at the 33:45 mark and the Owls went into the half trailing 2-0.
Rice quickly cut the deficit in half with Natalie Gorji drilling home a pass from Ellen Halseth and Mikala Furuto just three minutes into the second half. Biziorek had a chance to tie the match at the 50:42 mark, but her shot went off the post. Sarah Piper had another chance for the Owls in the 78th minute, but her free kick sailed right into the arms of the goalie as the Blazers prevailed for a 2-1 win.
