Game Notes
- This is the 44th meeting between Rice and Houston, the 41st to decide possession of the Bayou Bucket and the second to be known as "The Bayou Bucket Classic presented by H-E-B".
- Rice is 11-32 in the series and is looking to break a six-game losing streak in the series (2011-2021)
- The six-game streak matches the longest in the series (1987-92) but because of years in which the teams did not play, the current streak spans 11 years.
- The Owls have also lost their last six games when playing on the UH campus. Their last win came on 9/1/01 when Owls retained possession of the Bucket with a 21-14 win.
- The series began at Rice Stadium in 1971 and the first battle for the Bayou Bucket was also at Rice Stadium in 1974.
- The series returns to TDECU Stadium for the first time since 2017 when both teams returned to action in Houston for the first time after Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area.
- Rice is 5-10 when meeting the Cougars in a non-conference game, 4-16 while members of the Southwest Conference, and 2-6 as members of C-USA.
- The matchup between Mike Bloomgren and Dana Holgerson is the 21st different combination of head coaches in the history of the series and the 20th since the inception of the Bayou Bucket.
