HOUSTON – Rice University head women's basketball coach Lindsay Edmonds announced on Monday (5/30) the hiring of assistant coach Danyelle Grant.
"I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Danny Grant," Edmonds said. "Danny embodies all of the characteristics and values we were looking for in this position. She not only is a great coach with a lot of experience who will hit the ground running with recruiting and on-court development, but she is also a wonderful person who will be a great role model for our young ladies. Danny truly is just an all-around tremendous addition to our staff, program, and family and I can't wait for her to get here."
Grant spent the last season as an assistant coach at USC, where she served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and two games as the acting head coach.
"I could not be more excited and thankful to become a part of the Rice family and Lindsay's staff," said Grant. "I look forward to adding value in any way possible to such an enriched tradition of excellence that has already been established. Rice is such a distinguished university along with its athletics and I am thrilled to be welcomed into the fold. My family and I are beyond grateful for the opportunity to be surrounded by this great community. Growing and impacting young women is what I feel called to do and I can't wait to do it alongside Lindsay and the staff."
Prior to her stint in Los Angeles, Grant served six years (2015-21) as an assistant coach at Utah, helping lead the Utes to three postseason appearances and its first 20-win season under head coach Lynne Roberts. With Grant's tutelage, the Utes also set a program record for three-pointers made in a single-season and she helped develop the Utah point guards into some of the top assist providers in the conference.
Before her time at Utah, Grant spent one season at TCU (2014-15) as video coordinator and a combined four seasons in an assistant coach role at Fresno State (2012-14) and Utah State (2010-12).
A 2009 Utah State graduate, Grant (maiden name Snelgro) was the school's first all-conference First Team honoree. She remains ranked third all-time in assists (336) and steals (216) at Utah State and is eighth in career points (1,045). A native of Alta Dena, Calif., Grant played professionally in Finland in 2009-10.
Grant received her BA (Inter-disciplinary Studies) from Utah State in 2009 before earning a Masters of Liberal Arts from TCU in 2015.
