Smigelski Named to C-USA Freshman Team

Led the Owls in OPS, Slugging and multi-RBI games
Aaron Smigelski has been named to the 2022 Conference USA All-Freshman team in voting by the league's coaches.
Smigelski hit .272 in 47 games this season and led the team with a .914 OPS, a .517 slugging percentage, and nine multi-RBI games, tied (with Nathan Becker) for the team lead with a .397 on-base percentage, and finished second on the team in homers (8) and RBI (36). He hit .354 with runners on base while not grounding into a double play all season.
His eight home runs were the most for a Rice freshman since Michael Ratterree slugged 10 in 2010. He slugged two home runs in a game three times during the year, becoming the first Owls to do so since Anthony Rendon in 2010.
He is the 23rd Owl to earn a place on the C-USA's all-freshman baseball team since Rice began play in the conference in 2006.
