Doubles: Rice grabbed the early advantage by winning matches at the second and third lines to take a 1-0 lead.
Singles: The Roadrunners stormed back from doubles to take five of six first sets, three of them in tiebreakers, to ramp up the pressure on the Owls. UTSA held its advantage on a pair of courts, taking wins at the second and fourth lines, but Rice had a response of its own on the remaining courts. Haoyuan Huang shook of a 6-1 loss in his first set, rebounding swiftly to win in three sets and tie the match, 2-2. Fellow freshman Emir Sendogan, who won his first set in a tiebreaker, followed shortly after with a straight-set win to put the Owls ahead to stay. Sophomore Trinity Grear delivered the clinching point by dropping only five games over his final two sets at the sixth line.
Up Next: The Owls will close out the 2022 regular season schedule next weekend. They will travel to Dallas on Saturday to face SMU in the annual Turpin Cup match and then return home on Sunday to host Incarnate Word on Senior Day.
