Owls celebrate Senior Day on Monday
In Brief: Haoyuan Huang won for the 16th time this spring, but 27th ranked SMU held off a determined challenge by Rice to win their annual Turpin Cup match 4-1 in Dallas on Saturday.
Doubles: After the teams split matches at the second and third lines, the deciding point was in doubt until late in the match before SMU prevailed 7-5.
Singles: The first sets featured early battles on all six courts. Rice was able to take first sets at the first two lines, but hopes for an early advantage on at least four court foiled by a pair of 6-4 losses as SMU took four of six first sets. Huang ground out a 7-5, 7-5 win at the first line to put the Owls on the board, but the Mustangs leveraged their early success to close out three matches to clinch the day.
Up Next: The Owls will close out the regular season on Monday by celebrating Senior Day with a match against Concordia at 3 p.m. The match was added to the schedule to replace UIW, which had to cancel Sunday's original Senior Day matchup.
