Owls face USF and FIU next weekend
Tempe, AZ Arizona State jumped out to an early lead after a win in a showdown of ranked doubles teams and kept the pace up through singles to take a 4-0 win over Rice on Saturday at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
Doubles: After Saara Orav and Federica Trevisan picked up a win at the third line, the doubles point came down to the battle at the first line between Rice's 25th ranked duo of Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi and the Sun Devils 26th ranked Patricija Spakan and Domenika Turkovic, and the matchup was fittingly close. The teams battled evenly through the first eight games before ASU was able to break in the ninth game and the hold serve to win 6-4 and stake the Sun Devils to a 1-0 lead.
Singles: ASU stormed out of the gates in singles, taking five of six first sets and never looked back, securing the final three points with straight-set wins at the second, third and fourth lines.
Up Next: Rice will be back on the road next weekend when they travel to Florida for matches against USF on Friday and C-USA foe FIU on Saturday.
