Bowtell's Milestone Win Leads Owls
3/20/2022 6:52:00 PM | Women's Tennis
88th career win moves her into 10th
In Brief: Rice rolled to its 11th win of the season and fifth in a row and Anna Bowtell moved into sole possession of 10th on the Rice career wins list as Rice downed Tulane 4-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday.
Doubles: Much as they had in Friday's win over Marquette, 30th ranked Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi raced to a 6-1 lead at the first line to put early pressure on the Green Wave. But this time, they were joined by and Allison Zipoli and Anastasia Smirnova who also dropped just one game to lock up the first point of the day.
Singles: Bowtell led the attack in singles as the Owls swiftly took first sets on five of six courts. She carried her strong play into the second set and finish first, to improve her career mark in singles to 88-30 and her season record in dual matches to 9-2. She needs one win to reach double figures in dual singles action for the fifth consecutive year. Alison Zipoli and Budin followed Bowtell with wins, with Budin picking up her third clinch point of the spring.
Up Next: Rice will hit the road for the next two weekends. The Owls open their stretch of road matches with a trip to Arizona next weekend to take on Arizona (March 25) and Arizona State (March 26).
