
Owls Finish Fifth at CSCAA National Invitational

Hayon moves on to NCAA Championship
In Brief: Madison Howe and Shannon Campbell's third place finishes highlighted Rice's efforts on the final night of the CSCAA National Invitational Championship in Elkhart, Indiana on Saturday. Rice finished fifth in the team standings with 526 points.
The Details: Howe qualified fifth in the prelims of the 100 free but jumped up two spots to earn a spot on the podium. Campbell was credited with a third-place finish in the 1,000 free which was scored as an event as the swimmers competed in the 1650 free. Campbell finished 11th in the full race while Amelia Kane, who scored points for 12th place in the 1,000, finished 16th. Zoe Spitz closed out her 2022 season with an 18th place finish in the 200 back. Marta Cano-Minarro closed out her career as an Owl by scoring sixth-place points in the 100 IM and coming back to add additional points with a 14th place finish in the 200 fly and then a leg on the Owls' 400 free relay team which finished sixth. Sydney Morgan finished 10th in the 100 fly after earning a spot in the final. Lauren McDougall was 14th in the 100 free while Becca Evans, who was also swimming her last events for Rice, was 16th. Both joined with Cano-Minarro and Howe to close the meet with the final relay.
The Standings: Ohio State captured the team title with 828 points, followed by FIU 623, Tennessee (757.5), Akron (544.4) and Rice in the top five.
Up Next: Arielle Hayon, who won the 100 fly and finished third in the 50 fly this weekend, will compete in the 100 and 200 butterfly events at the NCAA Championships March 16-19.
