
Simpson-Sullivan, Taylor Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships

Simpson-Sullivan Friday at 7 p.m.; Taylor Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Rice women's track and field sophomore thrower Tara Simpson-Sullivan and freshman jumper Josie Taylor were announced as participants listed to compete in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships this upcoming weekend.
The championships, hosted by UAB, will be held March 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The field will consist of 17 events on both the men's and women's side with a total of 650 participants.
Simpson-Sullivan qualified in the weight throw and will be making her second career NCAA appearance and first Indoor. Simpson-Sullivan is seeded 16th in the event with a mark of 22.15m (72-8.00), which was established while winning the Conference USA individual title back on Feb. 19 when she broke her own school record, C-USA meet record, and Great Britain national record. The weight throw will take place on Friday, Mar. 11 beginning at 7 p.m.
Taylor qualified in the high jump and set a lifetime best clearance of 1.86m (6-1.25) to win gold at the C-USA Championships, breaking a 32-year-old Rice record while also tying the New Zealand indoor national record. Taylor is seeded eighth in the event with the top mark by a freshman in the NCAA this season. The high jump will get underway on Saturday, Mar. 12 at 12:30 p.m.
ESPN3 will stream the championships live starting at 11 a.m. Eastern time Friday, March 11 and starting at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, March 12. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 9:30 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, March 13 on ESPNU.
