Taylor Earns First Team All-American Honors

Tied for eighth in high jump at NCAA Indoors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Rice freshman jumper Josie Taylor ended her stellar indoor campaign in grand style on Saturday afternoon, finishing tied for eighth in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors.
The New Zealand native, who was seeded seventh, cleared 1.73m (5-8.00) and 1.78m (5-10.00) on her first attempts before three straight unsuccessful attempts at 1.83m (6-0.00) to finish in a five-way tie for eighth place overall and earning 0.2 team points for the Owls.
Taylor had qualified for the NCAA Championships and set a lifetime best clearance of 1.86m (6-1.25) to win gold at the C-USA Championships, breaking a 32-year-old Rice record while also tying the New Zealand indoor national record.
She joined fellow teammate Tara Simpson-Sullivan as an All-American after Simpson-Sullivan placed 14th in the weight throw on Friday.
