Balandran, Wosika Lead Way at UH Spring Break Invitational

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls women's track & field team won two individual events and established seven personal best marks in Thursday's outdoor season opener at the University of Houston Spring Break Invitational.
Sophomore distance runner Alyssa Balandran broke the meet record in the 800m, setting a lifetime best mark of 2:09.75 and winning by nearly three full seconds. Also picking up a victory in the distance events was sophomore Caitlin Wosika, who took the top spot in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:35.50.
Rachel Shoemaker led a group of four Owls in the 3000m with a time of 10:26.69, setting a PB and finishing third overall. Tanae Dorsett led a contingent of six Owls in the 200m with a PB of 24.84, good enough for fifth overall.
The Owls started the day by getting a pair of personal best clearances in the pole vault from Elena Siemens (3rd-3.85m) and Audrey Ho (5th-3.70m).
