
Bears Wrap up Stretch of Home Games for Owls

In Brief: Rice hosts No. 17 Baylor at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Owls: are 6-2 and come in at #57 in the first ITA computer poll released last week. They saw their five-match winning streak snapped by #7 Texas A&M in a 4-1 loss on Sunday, but the doubles team of Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi helped spark a win in doubles by taking a tiebreaker against the Aggies Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova, who were undefeated and ranked third in the nation.
Baylor: The Bears are 6-4 and ranked 17th in last week's ITA computer poll and 22nd in the Tennis Channel/USTA Top 25 (a new ITA ranking will be released tomorrow). They saw a five-match winning streak end in a 4-0 loss on the road at UCF last weekend. This is the 12th meeting between the schools since they began meeting annually in 2014 (they met three times in both 2014 and 2015). Rice won 12 of the first 14 matches between the schools from 1983 to 1995, but Baylor has won the last 16 matches in the series dating back to a 5-4 win by Rice on April 20, 1995 in Waco. This is the fourth meeting between the two at GRBTC, the last a 5-2 win by Baylor in 2020.

Up Next: Rice will open a three-match stretch of competitions away from GRBTC on Sunday when they travel to Hunstville to take on Sam Houston and then travel to Denton next weekend for a pair of C-USA matches with Charlotte (March 13) and North Texas (March 14).
