In Brief: Rice started fast and then withstood a response from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in singles to down the Islanders 7-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Thursday.
Doubles: The Owls raced to the early lead, taking the doubles point with wins at the first and third lines while losing only three combined games.
Singles: Allison Zipoli and Victoria Smirnova lead a charge in singles that saw the Owls take all six first sets and both held their momentum in the second to stake the Owls to a 3-0 lead. The Islanders rebounded to force third sets on three courts, including a pair of 6-1 wins in second sets. Maria Budin delivered the clinch in straight sets at the sixth line while Federica Trevisan and Anna Bowtell grabbed wins in three sets and Anastasia Smirnova bounced back to take a superset at the third line to close out the scoring.
Up Next: Rice continues the homestand next weekend when they host Texas State on Friday, February 18 at 1 p.m. and then welcomes LSU on Sunday, February 20 at 11 a.m.
